Small business website launch checklist

Short answer: before you launch, check that your contact details are right everywhere, every form reaches you, the site works on a phone, search engines are allowed in, and your structured data matches what the page shows. Then submit your sitemap and update your Google Business Profile link.

Content

  • Your business name, phone number and address are identical on every page and match your Google Business Profile
  • Hours are correct, including any holiday changes
  • Every service has a short description, and a price or starting price where you can give one
  • No sample text, sample phone numbers or placeholder images are left
  • Every photo is yours or properly licensed
  • Spelling checked by someone other than the person who wrote it

Contact and forms

  • Send a test message through every form and confirm it arrives
  • The phone number is a tap-to-call link on mobile
  • The email address works and someone checks it
  • You have a plan for replying within one business day

Mobile and speed

  • Open every page on a phone, on mobile data, not just on Wi-Fi
  • Buttons are easy to tap and text is readable without zooming
  • Images are compressed; no single image is several megabytes

Search setup

  • Every page has a unique title and description
  • The site loads on one address with https (no duplicate http or non-www versions)
  • robots.txt does not block search engines or AI search crawlers
  • A sitemap exists at /sitemap.xml
  • Structured data for your business type is present and matches the visible page
  • Old page addresses (if you are replacing a site) redirect to their new pages

After launch

  • Add the site to Google Search Console and submit the sitemap
  • Add it to Bing Webmaster Tools (it can import from Search Console)
  • Put the new address on your Google Business Profile and social profiles
  • Ask a few recent customers for an honest review
  • Run our free AI readiness check
  • Put a reminder in your calendar to review hours and prices every month
