Prices compared
Monthly price when paid yearly, from each company's own pricing page, checked 22 October 2026.
| Entry plan | Next plan | |
|---|---|---|
| Wix | Light $17.77 | Core $29.77 |
| Squarespace | Basic $19 | Core $29 |
| WordPress.com | Personal $4 | Premium $8 |
| WordPress.org (self-hosted) | Software is free; you pay for hosting, themes and some plugins |
Squarespace charges a 2% fee on store sales on its Basic plan. Wix notes that its prices vary by location. WordPress.com allows plugins on every paid plan.
Editing and design
Wix gives you a free-form canvas: drag anything anywhere. That freedom is great for people who enjoy design and slower for people who do not.
Squarespace uses structured, design-led templates. It is hard to make a Squarespace site look bad, and a little harder to make it do something unusual.
WordPress depends on the theme and page builder you choose. It can do almost anything, which also means more decisions and more things to keep updated.
Selling online
Squarespace and Wix both include commerce on their higher plans. WordPress usually adds a store through a plugin such as WooCommerce. If selling products is the core of your business, compare the commerce plans carefully, including fees.
Maintenance
Wix, Squarespace and WordPress.com handle hosting and updates for you. Self-hosted WordPress puts updates, backups and security on you or your developer.
Who should choose which
- Wix: you want full design control and plan to spend time on it.
- Squarespace: you sell products or services online and want it to look polished with little effort.
- WordPress: you need custom features or publish a lot, and have technical help.
- None of the above: you are a plumber, dentist, salon or restaurant who wants a site that is live this week and easy to update from your phone. That is what we built PHP Site Manager for, from $9 a month.
